Cost of living in Luxor

Inflation

Egypt is currently experiencing a period of high inflation. The release of the Egyptian Pound (EGP) currency in November 2016 significantly reduced the value of the local currency against the dollar or the euro. At the beginning of November 2016 you got 9 EGP for one Euro, so 19 Euros later, more than double.

This loss of value has two effects:

  • Travel to and in Egypt became cheaper for foreign tourists.
  • Everyday life became more expensive for the local people.

Almost two years after the devaluation of the EGP, you can notice these price increases everywhere. But they are limited in comparison to the devaluation of the EGP to the euro.
